Dragon Ball’s trademark move, the Super Saiyan transformation, dramatically increases a character’s combat capabilities while altering their appearance in various ways. One of the main changes is that characters’ hair becomes longer and golden yellow in hue, most commonly found in their SSJ3 forms.
Super Saiyan God
According to franchise creator Akira Toriyama, Super Saiyan Blue is the ultimate power form in the Dragon Ball universe. Combining Super Saiyan with Blue form allows users to access incredible power. In addition, upgrading physical strength and speed also benefits immensely from becoming one with this excellent form.
General Appearance
The user remains the same, although their skin tone becomes tanned, and their hair takes on a shade of red. Their eyes also expand slightly while taking on dark hues – however, some half-Saiyans, such as Trunks (Vegeta’s son) and Bulla (his granddaughter), possess dark blue irises instead. This reveals that this form is Goku’s second fastest and consumes far less stamina than Super Saiyan Blue, enabling him to use this form for motion while only switching into Super Saiyan Blue when attacking or defending.
Super Saiyan Blue
Super Saiyan Blue, powered by God Ki, represents the pinnacle of Saiyan power. As such, its users can withstand even Super Buu’s powerful energy attacks, while full-blooded male Saiyans may grow mustaches like those worn by Goku and Vegeta. At the Tournament of Destroyers, Vegeta and Goku employ their Blue forms against Perfect Hearts with assistance from Jiren and Hit. Furthermore, this form helps them maintain an advantage against Kefla during a fight with Super Saiyan Red. At first glance, the combination of Super Saiyan with God Ki causes hair to turn vivid cyan.
Super Saiyan 3
One of the defining characteristics of Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball franchise is how Saiyans, or Super Saiyans, can physically transform to become more robust versions of themselves. These upgrades – also known as Super Saiyan transformations – show warriors’ increased combat strength by visually depicting it with golden-yellow locks standing upright and emanating an energy aura. This form provides users extreme muscle growth, height gains, pupilless eyes, and paler skin tones. Son Goku employed this form to stall Majin Buu before later believing he could use it against him during a Fusion Dance battle. Raditz and Nappa both acquire this form in the Dragon Ball Heroes game; due to being bald, their hair does not change (but Nappa’s beard turns golden). Other characters who use this form include Kid Goku, Yamcha, Puar, Krillin, and Master Roshi.
Super Saiyan 4
Goku and Vegeta both attained this form in Dragon Ball GT; however, it is no longer considered canon as it was never seen again. When Saiyans transform into Super Saiyan 4 form, their hair turns magenta while their bodies sprout fur. In addition, these powers increase height and build. Once this form has worn off, they quickly revert to their original conditions. Entering SS4, characters emit a golden aura that resembles electricity, giving them enough power to execute a 10x Kamehameha attack. According to legend, Saiyans in this state can also fly, which explains their ability to flutter like birds. Additionally, a tail may grow on top of its head, representing its highest evolution without experiencing Blutz Waves.
Ultra Instinct
Goku mastered Ultra Instinct during the Tournament of Power. This form granted him various abilities, such as mastery over movement and the ability to nullify projectiles while progressively building muscle memory. Above all else, though, this form was created explicitly for master martial artists; thus, maintaining it required clearing your mind and remaining focused. Goku used Ultra Instinct against Gas to demonstrate its instability; when he used it against Gas, his body started breaking down almost instantly – hence its nickname Si,gn Ultra Instinct by Toei. Toriyama designed a concept art with white hair, but they decided instead to recolor it with silver locks for animation purposes.
