Braiding Styles

Hairstyle trends come and go, but braids have remained fashionable over the centuries. From cornrows to Dutch braids, braided styles serve more than aesthetic purposes; they can also symbolize social status or ethnic identity.

Braids are an effective protective style to shield hair from harsh hair products, scorching temperatures, and damaging habits. No matter your experience level or style preference, we have classes to inspire your next protective look!

Over Under-Over-Over-Under Braids

Three-strand braids are one of the most accessible braid styles to master and can be worn in various situations and with many hairstyles like ponytails and buns.

Interested in upping your braided look? Try a Dutch Braid! Tighter than French braids, it features beautiful beachy S-shaped wave patterns that create massive, voluminous waves.

Your braid is an elegant style suitable for work, school, and any special occasion; add accessories for an effortless casual vibe! Before starting to braid, it is an excellent idea to protect and moisturize your locks using products like Dove Refresh Care Volume and Fullness Dry Shampoo or Ouidad’s Clear Control Pomade for additional care and moisture.

Fishtail Braids

Fishtail braids add an elegant and sensual look to any hairstyle. While the technique requires more practice than traditional braiding techniques, anyone can still create them with enough training and determination.

Start by dividing your hair into two equal sections. Pull one thin strand from each team across, moving towards the left section until you find one that tucks under this part. Tuck this thin strand back under that section for good. Repeat this process on the other side, picking up pieces from within your braid and crossing them over into another area (similar to French braiding). Continue this process as you move down your braid. When you reach the end, secure it with a hair elastic or use some bobby pins as necessary for extra security if your locks are thicker. For an elegant and refined look, tie your braid into a neat bun at the nape of your neck for added panache.

Braided Ponytails

The ponytail is the quintessential multitasker of hairstyles, offering versatile looks for every event or special occasion. From quick and effortless (like Blake Lively’s lace braid bun) to elegant and polished (Issa Rae’s crown braid ponytail). Plus, it looks fantastic on any length or texture – natural coils and curls, long waves, afro curls, or box braids!

Rihanna famously showcases how to elevate her classic ponytail by adding an intricate side braid or mini French braid, as seen here. Or create an eye-catching fishtail like Yara Shahidi did by styling her high, textured fishtail.

Messy braids can look effortlessly chic when styled correctly, mainly if you use texture spray to give them an extra pop. Or try wrapping thin, delicate braids around the base of your ponytail, as shown by Skai Jackon!
