Easy Steps to Braid Hair

An effective braid requires carefully combed and not-too-dry hair

Ensure your hair is carefully combed and not too dry to ensure an effective braid. Dampening it will make it easier to twist into clean sections.

Start with a Ponytail

To create a braided ponytail, gather your hair into a high ponytail and secure it with an elastic. Untangle any knotted strands using your fingers before giving the style some grip by spraying TRESemme Freeze Hold Hairspray.

Create a Rope Twisted Braid

For an elegant style, try a rope-twisted braid. Cut two sections of hair, twist each one clockwise, and cross them from right to left.

Add Flair with Accessories

Accessorize with a cute bow or flower clip to enhance the basic style. After styling, spray your braided ponytail with hairspray to ensure it lasts all day.

Divide Your hair into Three Sections

Starting at the crown, divide your hair into three equal sections. Place one team in each hand (right, left, and thumb/index finger of both hands) and start braiding.

Cross the Right Section Over the Middle Section

Begin braiding by crossing the right section over the middle section. Use your left hand to adjust any strands between your index finger and thumb. Add a thin slice from the right side to the original right area, crossing this new section over the center.

Cross the Left Section Over the Middle Section

Add larger sections from either the right or left sides for thicker braids. Feed these sections through an outside strand before crossing them under the middle section. Repeat this process as each new team enters the braid.

Repeat

Keep practicing to perfect your braiding technique. With time and practice, you’ll become adept at braiding your hair.

Tips for Curly or Kinky Hair

If you have curly or kinky hair, wash and detangle it. Apply a styling paste to control and manage the texture. Once the first three-strand braid is complete, take more sections from either side and cross them over into the middle, repeating the process until the end of your ponytail. Secure with a hair tie.
